In the walk of life, one always wishes to fill it with meaning and accomplishments and so did Rajeev Ratna Shah, a celebrated civil servant. He took the inspiration to write his autobiography from “Lives of great men all remind us, we can make our lives sublime, And, departing, leave behind us, Footprints on the sands of time,” a quote from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s “A Psalm of Life”. The book is not just another memoir of a civil servant but this book transcends the boundaries of an autobiography. Shah, a graduate of St. Stephens, earned the sobriquet of a dependable doer in his years of service. He completed his MBA degree in New York. He served at reputable posts throughout his service, a few of which were posting as a District Magistrate, Aligarh and Principle Secretary to the Chief Minister, V.P. Singh.
He reflects on his life through a chronological narrative, depicted in the form of monographs on historical, management, and technology-related issues. The remarkable ones are Nawabs of Awadh and their Landmark Monuments; Century long Shia-Sunni Rancour and its Resolution by the 1998 Accord; Varanasi’s Antiquity on International Timeline; a reckoning
call of the Himalayan forests. Warm, wise, and revelatory experiences,
Footprints on the Sand is a personal reckoning of a man of soul and substance who has steadily defied boundaries and whose story inspires us!
