The 15 A Chronicles team interviewed the Security Convener, Mayank Gupta, who very generously agreed to share insights and addressed concerns we had related to sector security.

With the change of the security company, a lot of questions arise as to why this has been done. To this, the convener said, “It has been changed with effect from 1st July 2023 after continuous complaints of inefficiency. The patrolling guards remain the same (from Group 4 security) and more have been deployed, but the static guards on both gates are now from CP security, who have previously worked well in our sector.”

Upon asking about the steps that have been taken after the House Number 1 robbery, he said, “Not only the patrolling areas have been increased but new lights are also to be installed in areas near the green belt, that were not well-lit, such as from house numbers 1 to 16 and 94 to 112.” The camera which was not working at the time of the robbery had been changed by the previous committee. The new committee plans to install a few more around the green belt.

Work is being done to improve the systems at the gates too. The current system that is being used to give tickets to new visitors often breaks down due to the rains and many go without a ticket. That is also being worked upon with the help of the tech expert of the committee, Sanjay Das. While discussing the same, the security convener said, “Other societies use apps, such as MyGate, however, it's not feasible for our sector because there are many visitors who come to the club and the markets. It will be very difficult to track them through the app.”

Upon asking what the committee plans to do in their tenure for the security of the sector, he said, “We are working on getting the height of the boundary walls increased. Apart from that, we also plan to get the boundary wall covered with new barbed wires and improve lighting in the green belts. This will help to avoid trespassing and further burglaries. To avoid this, the residents can inform the RWA if they are leaving their house for a couple of days. We will make sure that the guards patrol around the house at night and even ring the bell to check with your staff if everything is alright."

“We plan to do all this and more with the extensive support of all our team members, especially Vandana Shukla, who is deeply concerned and involved in the security matters and extends her kind support at all times,” added the security convener.

While discussing the potential threats to security, he added, “Staff workers pose a major threat because they don't get a new card issued and thus it's arduous to track in which house are they currently working.” He has requested all the residents to get a police verification done before appointing any staff. Many incidents have been reported in regard to the same. He also added, “It’s a sincere request to submit the details of your staff at the RWA office. Please get their old cards cancelled and get a new one made for them. It is crucial to keep them in check to avoid any further complications.”

At last, he concluded by saying, “We are here to serve the residents at all times. One can contact security at the helpline number 7428244201, and if that doesn't help, please feel free to call me at any time, I’ll be there to help. Also, I’m open to feedback and suggestions from the residents.”
