Club 15A played host to an evening of theatre performances on Saturday, September 23rd. The program was dubbed "Kabhi Khushi, Kabhi Gham" and consisted of dual plays with different takes on the name.
Shalini Kapur (sector resident), was the tour de force behind the plays, playing different roles both on stage and off, transforming into two divergent characters with ease, but also penning a clever script, that embraced our sector audience members of all ages into a celebration of our sector, disguised as a wedding.
The Phiblish DDLJ (Dil Dhadkane Le Ja Le Jaiyega) was a laugh-out-loud comedy that takes place in the VIP room of our club resembling the play's venue itself. A 10 Cr wedding is about to take place downstairs, but the nervous bride (another resident Anya Sehgal) has locked herself in the bathroom and her frantic parents try everything to cajole her into attending her own wedding. The 45-minute conversation between the mismatched couple brings out some very interesting dialogues which highlighted the similarities and differences in their own beliefs as well as backgrounds.
The play incorporated many references to our wonderful sector, which made it even more relatable for the audience members, and added to the humour - from talks of the 6.5 star 15A Club to Noise of the Sector's Generators, from Dr Manju to Central Bank of India… oops, Bharat, from 15AChronicles to Stray Dogs, from G4 Security to Safal ki Sabziyan, from Manyavar to Chauhan the Bartender, from dogs registration to posting political/fake videos on whatsapp, and from 15A ki Kangana Ranaut to princess of 15A.
The first play also touched upon a few issues of current affairs, including G20, Rishi Sunak, Chandrayaan-3, and the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. But this was not the only play that looked at current issues. The second play, titled "Hello Devyani", saw a transformation of Shalini from a loud Punjabi Housewife to a ruthless politician. This play addressed many social issues of today, including women empowerment, greed, casteism, homosexuality and widow remarriage, through the lens of power play in politics in today's world.
The backstage crew consisted of underprivileged children from the My Perch organization in Noida, and Shivam entertained everyone with his songs during the interval.
The only thing the audience wished for was a better sound system to be able to enjoy the laughs and lessons a little more.
